
PianoDisc and Mason & Hamlin Artist, Brian Culbertson, has just been awarded a top prize at the 2009 Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards. In a ceremony held April 24th in the Living Arts Centre, Mississauga, Ontario, the talented composer/musician picked up the coveted "International Instrumentalist of the Year" award. Also nominated in the category were Kenny G, Michael Lington, Jeff Lorber, Tim Bowman and Nick Colionne.
Both Canadian and International artists who have contributed to the success of the Smooth Jazz format in Canada are recognized each year.
Culbertson was honored for his outstanding CD, "Bringing Back The Funk", which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Contemporary Jazz Albums chart. (See the story.) The Canadian award is one of several Culbertson has won, including the Third National Smooth Jazz Award for Best Keyboardist of the Year, in 2002. Culbertson records exclusively on Mason & Hamlin pianos.
